Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig

Mini-Review

Matt Haig, one of my favourite authors, has suffered from mental illness since he was in his early 20s: anxiety, depression, panic attacks and agoraphobia. He writes beautifully here about ways to manage the symptoms of these conditions, but also about the world itself – its constant stimulation and connectedness – and how this adds to so many people feeling stressed and unwell. Lots of empathy, practical strategies, reflection on the state of the world and lighthearted, self-deprecating humour. Especially good for boys & men. 14+.

Content warning: references to mental illness, suicide and suicidal thoughts, body image and addictions of various sorts including tech addiction.
