Mini-Review
Rosa and Asheeka are best friends living in Parramatta, getting their nails done and dressing up to drive around with boys or hang out in Macca’s carpark. Asheeka’s boyfriend pushes it too far and the girls take off in his beloved car.
Great book with a strong female empowerment theme – lively & believable first person voice, lots of intertextuality, nonlinear narration. Fun to read and has that literary touch. Slows down a bit about three-fifths in, but comes back strongly. Overall, a great read for year 9 and up.
Won the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Writing for Young Adults 2022, and shortlisted for a bunch of other YA awards.
