The Path of Thorns by A. G. Slatter

Mini-Review

I love A.G. Slatter’s books: feminist gothic fantasies set in a magic realism 19th century world, full of folk tales, hard choices and competent women (with a bit of romance). Asher Todd arrives as a governess to a secluded mansion (so far, so gothic), but far from being a vulnerable ingenue, she has secrets and powers of her own, and an agenda to pursue. A touch of Jane Eyre & Frankenstein here.

Fyi: deaths, domestic abuse, psychological abuse/control, alcoholism, supernatural occurences, mild sexual references
