Our Hideous Progeny by C. E. McGill

Mini-Review

Mary, great niece of Victor Frankenstein, is struggling to work as a scientist in late Victorian London, with the sometimes-help of her charming but feckless scientist husband. When both are in the career doldrums, they need a big project to show the scientific world what they can do. That’s when Mary finds Great Uncle Victor’s papers… which ignite a farfetched, but stupendous idea that will involve rats, dinosaurs and treachery.

Lots of great historical scientific detail and a critique of the white male privilege of Victorian science. The first half is okay, but it really takes off in the second half.

Content warnings: unwanted sexual advances/borderline sexual assault; many corpses; death; animal cruelty.
