One Song by A. J. Betts

Mini-Review

Eva is a singer-songwriter and perfectionist, who’s longing to do well in the Triple J Unearthed High competition. She feels like this is her last chance, as she’s about to age out. She assembles a band and writes a song – everything’s perfectly planned. But on the recording evening, the plan crumbles, and they’re left with one weekend to write and record a completely new song.

I really enjoyed this novel. It started a little slowly and predictably, but then started twisting a bit and became very interesting. Regular f-words, but otherwise it’s pretty PG. I was sad to see that, although on the long list, this didn’t make the CBCA shortlist for 2024.
