Mini-Review

Rachel is a 17 year old Korean-American K-pop trainee who is desperate to “debut” for her label before she gets too old (yes, really). But she faces multiple obstacles: mean girl trainees, ultra-strict trainers, double standards for male/female singers, a lack of support at home, homework, friendship juggling, and the very good looking hot K-pop star, Jason Lee, whom she’s DEFINITELY not allowed to date. She’s not allowed to date anyone… that’s the rule.

I enjoyed this well crafted & entertaining novel. It definitely had me hooked and feeling tense: how would Rachel resolve all these conflicts? The ending was a bit of a let down, however… not satisfactorily resolving all the loose ends. I felt like it needed another chapter. There is a sequel, however, so…

Fyi: the girl K-pop trainees are kept on rigid diets and are weighed frequently. Some insults about weight/body.
