Printing in England

Listen to this! If you haven’t listened to You’re Dead to Me yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a BBC podcast hosted by Greg Jenner, a British historian who worked on Horrible Histories, the hilarious & gross (but educational) kids’ TV show. The podcast, however, is for adults, so the content is not always kid-appropriate (but always funny).

Each show has two guests, a historian and a comedian. The historian teaches the comedian about the topic of the day (no world wars allowed), and the comedian cracks jokes. At the end, the comedian is quizzed, very generously, on what they’ve learnt. Some episodes are better than others: I highly recommend the Josephine Baker episode and the Lord Byron episode, but there are lots of good ones.

This episode is about the early history of book printing, and it’s hilarious as well as informative. If you love books, history and British humour, this is for you! 56 minutes long – will help you power through some necessary but pretty boring housework.
