Review
John Watson, serving as an army doctor in Afghanistan, was injured in an explosion and is now in London, unemployed and looking for a flatmate. And he wants to start a podcast. Of course, he moves in with the brilliant but eccentric Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective, and is immediately swept up in enthralling & funny mysteries and adventures.
This podcast/audio drama is great fun to listen to. It has all the old fashioned delights of a Sherlock detective story – the adventures are retellings of the original stories – with a contemporary London setting. Sherlock is the usual antisocial deductive genius archetype, and is explicitly autistic.
Watson is a true crime podcaster, with a humorously self-effacing, bumbling manner. Mariana works for Hudson’s, a real estate agency, and then later as Sherlock & Co.’s business manager – Sherlock keeps erroneously calling her ‘Mrs Hudson’. The Sherlock and Watson personas are in the same vein as the BBC Sherlock versions, but not exactly the same.
And the theme tune’s a banger. A violin banger! (It’s called ‘Mad Prodigy’.)
… and here’s Episode 1.
