Mini-Review
Spence is stuck in a time loop: every day, Clara Hart bumps into his car in the school parking lot. He goes into school and hangs out with his friend Anthony, who’s a sexist oaf, but has been good to Spence since his mum died last year. Then they go to Anthony’s party. Clara is strangely out of it and goes upstairs with Anthony. Then she’s upset. Then she’s hit by a car and dies. Every day. Spence tries to change the course of events, but can’t. In fact… things seem to be getting worse.
I highly recommend this gripping and occasionally witty ‘Ground Hog Day’ scenario novel that intelligently critiques the patriarchy and rape culture.
Lots of triggers here though: serious sexual assault, death, grief, swear words, drinking, drugs, sexist behaviour/sexual harrassment, sexual references.
